TCC Video: The Right to Freedom Of Conscience

The Little Sisters of the Poor

Why do we need to protect religious liberty and freedom of conscience in the United States? Why should the Constitution continue to defend the freedom of people whose religious views we may disagree with? Pacifists who don’t want to fight in wars. Doctors who don’t want to perform abortions. Nuns who don’t want to pay for their employees artificial birth control. Why does it matter for non-religious people?

Should Catholic nuns who oppose birth control, be allowed to continue to serve the poor, while not paying for their employees contraception? Or should they be forced by the government to either pay for the Pill or close their doors? This is a complicated issue, but this video from the USCCB is a good place to start.
