Otis Redding

Otis Redding “the King of Soul” was born to a poor family in Dawson, Georgia. His father was a gospel singer and sharecropper and his mother was a housekeeper. He got his start singing in church and at the age of 15 left school to help his family financially. He worked as a well digger, a gas station attendant and a musician. One of the greatest singers in popular music he wrote and performed hits like “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” before his death in a plane crash in 1967.
