Evil is real, that’s why we renounce it. Evil is the absence, or privation of the good. Evil is what allows us to dehumanize the “other”: refugees, poor people, babies, etc. At baptisms we are asked: “Do you reject Satan? I do. And all this works? I do. And all his empty promises? I do.” Pope Francis has said, “It is enough to open a newspaper and we see that around us there is the presence of evil, the Devil is at work. But I would like to say in a loud voice ‘God is stronger.'”
I love the 90s alt-country band Uncle Tupelo made up of Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy and Mike Heidorn. Together they created a sound that was a mixture of punk, Appalachian, and country. My favorite Uncle Tupelo album is, “March 16-20 1992.” Listen to “Satan, Your Kingdom Must Not Come Down” and all the songs I’ve picked for this site here.
