I’m kind of obsessed with the devotional and haunting songs of the 1970s singer-songwriter Judee Sill. Sill’s lyrics are full of Biblical imagery: heaven, angels, sin, Christ, and redemption. Her songs were about her own life and loss but in their particularity they also feel universal. Sill opened for Crosby and Nash and Cat Stevens but never received much success as a solo artist. Her life was wild, full of suffering, and ultimately cut short by an overdose. Listen to the song, “Jesus Was A Cross Maker” and more here. Find stuff on our blog you don’t find elsewhere?
