180-Degrees-South

Looking for a documentary to watch with your family? We recommend 180 Degrees South. Directed by Chris Malloy, the film is about surfer and climber Jeff Johnson’s attempt to recreate the 1968 climb of the Corcovado Volcano in Patagonia by Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, and Doug Tomkins, the founder of North Face.  Johnson’s narration can be cheesy at times, but the film is absolutely worth seeing because it features some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, along with a fun soundtrack (think: Modest Mouse, and M Ward). Added bonus: Affectionate use of the term “dirt bag.” 180 Degrees South encourages all people to become passionate about preserving wild spaces and conserving natural resources. Doug Tompkins has conserved over 2 million acres of wilderness in Chile and Argentina.
