tumblr_mmhtjnkbvO1qll1ero1_500 We recommend the Carter Family Depression-era spiritual “No Depression,” recorded by the 90s alt-country band Uncle Tupelo. Uncle Tupelo was made up of Jay Farrar, Jeff Tweedy and Mike Heidorn. Together they created a sound that was a mixture of punk, old timey Appalachian, Nashville country, and outlaw country. We love how Farrar’s voice makes this old song new, “I’m going where there’s no depression, to a better land that’s free from care, I’ll leave this world of toil and trouble, my home’s in heaven, I’m going there.” Listen after the jump:
