John Allen reports that since the US led invasion of Iraq more than 1,000 Christians have been killed in that country because of their faith. Scores of others have been “kidnapped and tortured, and 62 churches and monasteries have been attacked. 850,000 Christians have fled Iraq since the US led invasion. Deeply grieved by the violence in Syria and the Middle East Pope Francis has declared September 7th a worldwide day of prayer and fasting for peace. In his address this morning he said, “There is a judgment of God and of history upon our actions which are inescapable! Never has the use of violence brought peace in its wake.
