The Jesuit priest, poet, and peace activist, Daniel Berrigan has died at the age of 94. May he rest in peace. Fr. Berrigan gained attention by fighting for gospel nonviolence, and for his civil disobedience against The Vietnam WarRIP, Daniel Berrigan. More from Anna Keating after the jump:

Plowshares peace activists

Last summer Sister Megan Rice, an 82 year old nun, and two peace activists, part of the Plowshares Movement, broke into a nuclear weapons facility in Tennessee as an act of civil disobedience. The Catholic Church prohibits the use of nuclear weapons, but according to the Washington Post, “Nuclear weapons have been the United States’ third-highest national priority since World War II, in terms of dollars, and we spend a fortune every year to manage and secure them.” Should these peace activists have engaged in civil disobedience in order to raise awareness about nuclear weapons and the money we spend on them?  Read the whole story in The Washington Post and decide for yourself: The Prophets of Oak Ridge
