J.F. Powers

J.F Powers letters have recently been released in the book Suitable Accommodations. Powers won the National Book Award in 1963 for his novel Morte D’Urban. He was a Catholic radical and the father of a large family in the 40s and 50s who wrote short stories and novels about the lives of priests, and kept company with the likes of: Thomas Merton, Eugene McCarthy, Robert Lowell, Theodore Roethke, Sean O’Faolain, Frank O’Connor, Dorothy Day, and Alfred Kinsey. Read a review of his book of letters in The New Yorker here: The Letters of J.F.
