Fr. Gregory Boyle Fr. Gregory Boyle S.J. is one of our heroes. For a quarter of a century, he has steered people out of the gang life through Homeboy Industries, which offers job training, counseling, tattoo removal and more. The model Boyle built has been replicated around the country and abroad, but due to government cuts his program is struggling. Fr. Boyle is also suffering from cancer. TCC Films: Rize

The 2005 documentary Rize, directed by David LaChapelle, tells the story of two dance movements born in South Los Angeles in the 1990s, clowning and krumping. The neighborhoods of South Central LA are plagued by gangs, drugs, and violence, so much so that joining a gang is sometimes the only option for the kids growing up there. Rize tells the story of kids who have used dance as a way out.
