A Rastafarian most of his life, Bob Marley was baptized into the Ethiopian Orthodox church before his death in 1981. The King of Reggae, Marley often used music to praise God and advocate for peace and equality.  One of our favorite tracks is “Jah is Mighty – Corner Stone”  in which he sings from the Psalms. I live across the street from a college campus, and the other day I saw an undergrad wearing a t-shirt that said, “Consent is sexy.” As he passed me I thought, “Consent is crucial yes, but sexy? Consent is the bare minimum, in terms of the legal distinction between sex and rape. Love is sexy.” Read this Washington Post piece: We’re casual about sex and serious about consent. But is it working? Then, listen to this Bob Marley track to hear Lauryn Hill rap about love and marriage, “If you’re asking than I’m telling you it’s yes.” In addition, to being one of our favorite recording artists Ms. Hill is a Christian mother of six, and Bob Marley, joined the Ethiopian Orthodox Church at the end of his life.
