St. Patrick’s Day Irish Soda Bread Recipe

Irish Soda Bread

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow with Irish Soda bread. This wonderful recipe comes from the kitchen of Catholic Catalogue reader and contributor Beth Healy Preuss. Thanks for sharing!

Oven at 400.
4c. white flour
2 T. sugar
1 t. salt
1 t. baking soda
2 1/2 c. buttermilk
1 egg
3/4 c. raisins

Mix dry ingredients and stir in raisins. Make a well in center of the bowl. Add egg and milk. Mix well. Dough should be sticky. Pat into greased round cake pan until 1 1/2 inch thickness. Cut a deep cross in the middle. Bake 15 minutes at 400 then turn down oven and bake at 350 for 20 min. When finished bottom should sound hollow when tapped on. Great with corn beef and cabbage!
