Father’s Day is tomorrow. A blessing for new father’s is here.

Blessing of the Father

Heavenly Father,
We thank you for this new life
and humbly pray to be worthy of your gift.
Grant N., the strength and courage
To pass through this time of waiting and of change
as Joseph did with Mary.
May your grace shine upon N.,
and may you grant him your wisdom and love in the days ahead.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Prayers for those hoping to conceive or adopt a child:

Psalm 145:13-21
The Lord is faithful in all his words
and holy in all his works.
The Lord lifts up all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.

The eyes of all look hopefully to you,
and you give them their food in due season;
You open your hand
and satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is just in all his ways
and holy in all his works
The Lord is near to all who call upon him,
to all who call upon him in truth.

He fulfills the desire of those who fear him,
he hears their cry and saves them.
The Lord keeps all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.
May my mouth speak the praise of the Lord,
and may all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.

God our Creator,
by your love the world is filled with life,
through your generosity one generation
gives life to another
and so are your wonders told and your praises sung.
We look to you in our love and in our need:
may it be your will that we bear (adopt) a child
to share our home, faith, and life.
Loving God, be close to us
as we pray to love and do your will.
You are our God, forever and ever.

Prayers and blessings for parents before birth:

All make the sign of the cross. The leader says:

Let us bless the Lord Jesus, who in the womb of the Virgin Mary became like us. Blessed by God forever.
R/ Blessed be God forever.

The leader says:

God, the Lord of life, brings every creature into being and rules and sustains the life of each one of us. These parents to be are partners in God’s love and seek his blessing because they already cherish the child they have conceived and because they await the hour of their child’s birth in faith and hope.

Read Luke 1:39-45.

The leader says: The Gospel of the Lord.

R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Hands can be placed on the parents’ shoulders:

Gracious Father, your Word, spoken in love, created the human family
and, in the fullness of time,
your Son, conceived in love, restored it to your friendship.
Hear the prayers of N. and N.,
who await the birth of their child.

Calm their fears when they are anxious.
Watch over and support these parents
and bring their child into this world
Safely and in good health,
So that as members of your family
they may praise you and glorify you
Through your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
Now and forever.

All make the sign of the cross.

May God, who chose to give us the joys of eternal salvation through the motherhood of the Virgin Mary and the protection of St. Joseph, bless us and keep us in his care, now and forever. Amen.

Blessing of the Mother
God of love and compassion
look with favor on your daughter
who anxiously awaits the birth of her child.
Be with her in labor
that she may deliver her child in safely
and rest always in you.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Prayers of Thanksgiving for a Newborn or Newly Adopted Child:

God our Creator, cherish this child.
Jesus, our Savior, protect him/her.
Holy Spirit our comforter, strengthen him/her.

Trace the sign of the cross on the child’s forehead.

N., may the Lord Jesus, who loved children, bless you and keep you in his love, now and forever. Amen.

Parents’ Thanksgiving
O God, we give you thanks for N.,
whom you have welcomed into our family.
Bless this family.
Confirm a sense of your presence with us,
and grant us patience and wisdom,
That our lives may show forth the love of Christ,
as we bring N. up to love all that is good.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Postpartum Morning Offering

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of your sacred heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, and the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all the apostles of prayer, and in particular for those recommended by the Holy Father this month.
