The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is asking Catholics to participate in nine days of prayer for life, beginning today, January 18th through the 26th (as Wednesday the 22nd is the 41st anniversary of Roe. v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision which legalized abortion in the US). Pray for an end to abortion and the throwaway culture which dehumanizes the disabled, the elderly and the unwanted. Pray for expectant mothers and fathers in difficult circumstances, and families recovering from the pain of an abortion. Pray for a culture of adoption and of nonviolent solutions to social problems. Pray that we will come to believe with Pope Francis that, “It is not ‘progressive’ to try to resolve problems by eliminating human life.” The daily prayers and reflections can be found at the Bishop’s website here.
