For his first Papal trip, Pope Francis visited Lampedusa, an island outside of Rome, which has become one of the main points of entry into Europe for thousands of desperate immigrants. Immigrants come in crowded and unsafe ships, and many die en route.
In his homily at Lampedusa Pope Francis said, “These our brothers and sisters who seek to leave difficult situations in order to find a little serenity and peace, they seek a better place for themselves and for their families . . . How many times do those who seek this not find understanding, do not find welcome, do not find solidarity!” Read the entire homily here: The Globalization of Indifference
